The same amount each month
The Equalized Payments Plan (EPP) is the best way to manage your payments. It's simple: Hydro-Québec calculates or estimates the total consumption at your service address for the past 12 months and spreads the corresponding amount over the next 12-month period. You can sign up any time during the year.

What if your consumption changes during the year?

Interim reviews
Two interim reviews are carried out, one in December or January and the other in April or May, to make sure your monthly installment accurately reflects your consumption throughout the year.

Annual review
An annual review is carried out in August or September to assess your actual consumption in relation to the total amount billed, determine your balance (positive or negative) and set a new installment amount for the next 12-month period. An annual review bill is issued to bring your balance back to zero.

  • If you consumed more than estimated, the amount due will be greater than your usual installment. It will be carried over from the review statement onto your bill, and will be payable on the due date.

New: You can have the amount over and above your installment spread over your next six bills by contacting Customer Services. Our representative will explain the terms of such a payment arrangement. For more details, see the Get to Know Your New Bill guide ("Payment arrangement" section).

  • If you consumed less than estimated, the amount due will be lower than your usual installment. A positive amount will be carried over onto your bill and payable on the due date. A negative amount represents a credit, which will be applied to your next bill.

New: You can also request a cheque for the amount of the credit by contacting Customer Services.

Confirmation of enrollment
You will receive a letter confirming your EPP enrollment shortly after you sign up. In the meantime, please continue to pay the amount shown on the bills you receive.

Meter reading and bill payment
Your meter will be read at the usual interval. If our meter reader leaves you a card, please fill it out as you normally would.

Late payment fees are applicable to your monthly EPP installment amount.

Hydro-Québec may terminate your EPP service if an installment is late.

If you want to cancel your EPP enrollment, just give us a call. You will receive a letter confirming the end date.

A winning combination
To make sure you never forget a payment, combine the EPP with Authorized Payment. You can also use either of these services on its own, depending on your needs.
