The temporary diversion at the dam site is achieved by means of a tunnel excavated beneath the left bank of the
Eastmain River. The tunnel makes it possible to temporarily dewater a short section of the riverbed for
construction of the main dam. Once the tunnel gates have been closed, a concrete plug inside the tunnel, beneath the dam axis, will permanently
seal the By-pass tunnel.
