Existing line corridor between Beauceville and Sainte-Marie substations

Existing line corridor between Beauceville and Sainte-Marie substations.

The 120-kV line that connects Beauceville and Chaudière substations is reaching the end of its useful life. Its capacity is exceeded at peak times in the event of major equipment failure between the substations.

To maintain service quality and reliability for customers in this area, changes must be made to reinforce the transmission system.

Hydro-Québec plans to build a new 120-kV line about 30 km long between the Beauceville and Sainte-Marie substations. The new line will provide a long-term solution to meeting criteria for safety and reliability of supply, as well as new weather loading standards.

Work is expected to start in spring 2011, with commissioning slated for the fall of that year.
