Between January and September 2012, Hydro-Québec will rebuild and reroute the transmission system between Nicolet and Bécancour substations. The work has two main objectives: meet the growing demand of Bécancour's industrial park and ensure the reliability of the transmission system.

The work will consist of dismantling and rebuilding, within the same right-of-way, a 230-kV line over 44 km between Nicolet and Bécancour substations.

  • A 31-km long, 230-kV line built on wooden H-frames in 1959, will be rebuilt on steel towers.
  • In the Saint-Grégoire sector, within the municipality of Bécancour, the rebuilt line will follow the widened right-of-way of a 120-kV line over 2.2 km.
  • Between the Saint-Grégoire sector and Bécancour substation, the new line will replace an existing 230-kV line.
  • Commissioning is scheduled for September 2012.
