A number of satellite substations – transmission substations supplying a distribution system – currently serve Montréal's north shore. Their overall capacity must be gradually increased to meet the demand growth.

In the short term, demand growth in the area near Highway 15 will exceed the capacity of the three 120/25-kV substations that serve it, Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest, Boulevard-Labelle and Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines.

Hydro-Québec is conducting the preliminary studies for the construction of a new substation north of Blainville and its connection to the transmission grid.
