Hauterive substation

Hydro-Québec plans to build a 161-kV double-circuit line between Hauterive substation and the Alcoa aluminum smelter in Baie-Comeau, in the Côte-Nord region.

The new 22-km line under study would meet the needs of the Alcoa aluminum smelter upgrade project expected by 2015. This new load on Hydro-Québec's transmission grid will also require adding a power transformer at the Hauterive substation.

After conducting environmental, technical and economic assessments of the project, Hydro-Québec will seek the necessary government approvals. Throughout the process, the company will inform and consult stakeholders.

Construction is expected to take place in spring 2015, with a view to commissioning the line in fall 2015.
