Stornoway Diamond Corporation plans to operate a mine in the Monts Otish area of the Nord-du-Québec region. The diamond mine is located on the Renard property some 150 km south of La Grande 4 reservoir and 275 km north of the Cree community of Mistissini. This project is part of the Québec government's Plan Nord announced in May 2011.

The electrical load from all Renard mining property facilities is currently estimated at 25 MW. Hydro-Québec is conducting draft-design studies for the planned new supply of the Renard and would like to commission this line in 2015.
