Hydro-Québec plans to build a 230-kV transmission line, approximately 35 km long, between Saint-Césaire and Bedford substations. It will ensure the reliability of the region's power supply and interchanges between Québec and Vermont.
In the short term, the region's needs and potential exports to Vermont call for the construction of a new 120-kV line. In the long term, a planning study shows that a new line should have a voltage of 230-kV to best meet electricity needs. Hydro-Québec will build the line and initially operate it at 120 kV. As demand evolves, the line will be used at full capacity.
The project includes adding feeder bays to connect the line's circuits to Saint-Césaire and Bedford substations. Bedford substation will be expanded to accommodate the addition of a capacitor bank and the replacement of three buildings with a new control building.
Commissioning is scheduled for 2014.
