Sarcelle Substation

The purpose of this project, in the Nord-du-Québec region, is to transmit electricity generated at the new Sarcelle powerhouse to Hydro-Québec TransÉnergie's 735-kV transmission system.

It involves:

  • Building a single-circuit 315-kV line, 101 km long
  • Installing a switchyard at the new Sarcelle powerhouse
  • Adding electrical equipment at Eastmain-1 substation

The project has been approved by both levels of government and is now subject to Section 22 of Chapter I of the Environmental Quality Act.

The estimated cost of the project (line and substations) is $115 million. Construction is scheduled to start in July 2010, with commissioning in July 2011.
