Title: Electricity supply

Subtitle: Equipment

The customer must protect the Hydro-Québec equipment installed on the premises covered by the contract.

The customer may not, for example, interfere with or alter how the meter operates. The meter is used to accurately measure and record the consumption of electricity. It is strictly forbidden to tamper with it or break the seal, on penalty of a fine.

Subtitle: Continuity of service

Hydro-Québec does everything possible to ensure continuity of service. However, it cannot guarantee voltage and frequency stability or continuity in the supply and delivery of electricity.

In addition, Hydro-Québec cannot be held liable for damage resulting from the supply or delivery of electricity or the failure to supply or deliver electricity.

Subtitle: Voltage fluctuations

To ensure reliable electricity service, Hydro-Québec complies with Canadian standards for the supply of electricity.

The customer is in turn responsible for ensuring the protection of property and safety of persons at the location where the electricity is being supplied or delivered.

Important
To protect your electrical equipment and devices, plug them into a power bar that provides protection against voltage surges. You must also make sure that your equipment does not perturb the distribution system.

Subtitle: Interruptions

Hydro-Québec can interrupt service in cases of emergency, fraud or electricity theft. Service may also be interrupted for system maintenance or modifications, or to ensure public safety.

As much as possible, interruptions are scheduled for off-peak periods. Hydro-Québec makes every effort to inform customers in advance by sending them a written notice or calling them on the phone.

Subtitle: Disconnection for nonpayment

If a hydro bill is past due and no payment arrangements have been made, Hydro-Québec is allowed to disconnect service.

When a bill is overdue, the first thing Hydro-Québec does is issue the customer an overdue notice. If the customer doesn't pay the amount owing and doesn't make arrangements, then Hydro-Québec issues a new notice telling the customer that electricity will be cut off in eight days.

Service can be disconnected at any primary residence or any address at which the customer is responsible for paying the electricity bill. There is a charge when service is reconnected.

For humanitarian reasons, Hydro-Québec does not cut off service to customers with electric heating at their primary residence in the winter. In cases where service was cut off for failure to pay, it is restored for the winter months.

Important
If someone's life depends on electrical equipment (such as a respirator), it is your responsibility to inform Hydro-Québec immediately.
