Do-it-yourself jobs are a cinch? Are you sure?
Planning to prune your trees on your own? What if the ladder or pruning tool comes into contact with a power line? Also keep in mind that the branch you're cutting — which may be full of sap — can carry a shock if it touches the line.
One wrong move, distraction or sudden gust of wind is all it takes. Working close to a power line, especially within three metres of one, is simply too dangerous.
Pruning is a job for experts
Call a professional tree trimmer if your trees need pruning. And please, call Hydro-Québec at the number on your bill if you see branches that are:
- within three metres of a power line;
- touching the wires and causing sparks; or
- close enough to the line to potentially cause a power failure.
That way, you:
- protect yourself and your family from a potential hazard;
- avoid the risk of electric shock;
- save your neighbors the inconvenience of a power failure.
What's the rule of thumb for staying safe? Stay at least three metres away from power lines!
It's a matter of life and death.
