Image : Tips and advice from Mr. Socket - Using electricity safely

People tend to take electricity for granted. Do you think about it when you're ...
  • blow-drying your hair?
  • making toast?
  • cooking?
  • changing a lightbulb?
  • using a power tool?
Remember, electricity can be hazardous if used carelessly.

And don't forget your toddlers!

Block electrical outlets with childproof covers, and keep electric cords out of reach.

A dangerous combination

Don't mix water and electricity. Water conducts electric current, which can cause a shock. Be doubly careful in the kitchen, bathroom and workshop.

Before starting work around the house, check ...
  • Is the electric cord of the tool you're using in good condition?
  • Does the extension cord have a round prong to ground it?
  • Is the appliance you're repairing unplugged?
  • Is there electric wiring behind the wall you're about to drill or nail into?
Care and caution are key to safety!
