When climbing a ladder, make safety a top priority!

Most ladder accidents occur in backyards. If you use a ladder, be sure to be extra careful, especially if there are power lines nearby.

  • Choose a fiberglass ladder rather than one made of aluminum, which is highly conductive.
  • Before setting up the ladder, look for nearby power lines. Always stay at least three metres from the lines.
  • Wear shoes with sturdy soles that aren’t caked with earth or mud.
  • Check each rung before climbing the ladder and make sure that the rails are stable on the ground or against a vertical surface.
  • Ask for help! It’s not easy to handle a ladder alone.

And always be careful!
