THE BEST CHOICE IN THREE STEPS
-
Look for latest-generation ENERGY STAR qualified televisions
A television that meets version 5.3 technical specifications is even more energy efficient than one that meets 4.1 specifications.
-
Choose the most suitable screen size
The larger the screen, the more power your TV will use. For example, a 52-inch screen uses about 33% more energy than a 42-inch one. To determine the optimal screen size, take a seat at a reasonable distance from the place where your television will go, based on the size of the room, and see what screen size works best. Be sure to place the TV so that the centre of the screen is at eye level when you watch.
-
Select the type of screen that's right for you
As a rule, an LED LCD screen uses less energy than a standard LCD screen, which in turn typically uses less energy than a plasma screen.
When you're shopping, be sure to check the energy consumption of every model.
