Electronic Thermostats
Tips and Advice

For maximum savings
  • Replace as many conventional thermostats as possible.
  • Replace all the thermostats in the same open area.
  • Start with the rooms where heating is needed most, if you're replacing only some of your thermostats.
  • Set the thermostat at recommended temperatures.
  • For a better idea of your potential energy savings, do the ENERGY WISE Home Diagnostic.
Choosing the right model
  1. Each thermostat should be compatible with the power of the baseboard heater it controls. Check the power rating (in watts) of your baseboard heaters so that you can choose the right thermostat model.
  2. Fan coil units require a special type of thermostat. Check the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.
  3. Programmable thermostats have various features to meet different needs. Choose the model that suits your lifestyle, considering your work schedule and the time you spend away from home.
  4. Remember that rooms always kept at the same temperature do not require a programmable thermostat.
