Projects That Are Profitable for All

Ensuring Economic Spinoffs from Hydropower Projects

When Hydro-Québec builds a new generating station, refurbishes a substation or builds power lines, it generates economic activity. All of Québec benefits, particularly the host communities in which our projects are carried out.

Hydropower facilities are lasting assets and constitute a rich legacy for future generations in the province and far beyond its borders. All Quebecers benefit—economically, environmentally and socially—from the many advantages of hydroelectricity.

Over the past few years, Hydro-Québec has undertaken projects representing several billion dollars in capital spending.

According to an internal assessment, every million dollars invested in projects leads to the creation of 8.9 jobs. Hydro-Québec is consequently a driving force in Québec's economy. The projects generate other spinoffs as well, such as indirect jobs.
