Knowing Our Workforce


Present throughout the province, Hydro-Québec's employees play an essential role in carrying out the company's activities and achieving its objectives. Through their work, they express the company's values and enable it to fulfill its mission and meet its customers' needs.

The percentage of women in the workforce, by job group, is calculated every year. It is generally about 30% and has risen 2.4% since 2003.

Women in the Workforce

Women in the workforce are concentrated in the Clerical, Specialist and Professional job groups. There are still few women in the Trades, System Operator and Scientist groups. However, the vocational profile of women in the company has definitely changed since 1999.

Most employees are in the 50–54 age bracket. The anticipated wave of baby-boomer retirements began in 2004 with 629 departures. Annual retirements are expected to remain above 500 and to exceed 1,000 in 2012, by which time the turnover in our workforce will be about 40%. A slight reduction in the average age should result.
