Taking Part in Community Initiatives

Throughout the province, Hydro-Québec leads task forces and joint action committees, and takes part in various other committees made up of representatives of local and regional organizations.
 
We also participate in regional administrative conferences attended by local government representatives.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue
Spinoff maximization committee for major Hydro-Québec projects in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (ComaxAT)
  • Collaboration and joint efforts with ComaxAT, leading to major economic spinoffs from the following projects:
    • refurbishment of Rapide-2 and Rapide-7 generating stations
    • refurbishment of Pandora substation
    • refurbishment of Rapides-des-Quinze generating station
    • construction of Eastmain-1 generating station
    • construction of Eastmain-1-A/Sarcelle/Rupert project
Capitale-Nationale
Regional issue table on off-road vehicles
  • Establishment of a permanent snowmobile and ATV trail network in the region and in neighboring administrative regions.
Côte-Nord
Comité bipartite Hydro-Québec – MRC de La Haute-Côte-Nord
  • Annual meeting held to publicize the yearly results of environmental follow-up of the partial diversion of the Portneuf and Sault aux Cochons rivers.
Estrie
Comité du patrimoine paysager estrien
  • Active participation in order to harmonize local community interests.
Lanaudière
Intermunicipal board for the Chutes-Monte-à-Peine-et-des-Dalles regional park
  • Agreement between Hydro-Québec's Laurentides regional branch and the Intermunicipal board for the Chutes Monte-à-Peine-et-des-Dalles regional park:
    • three-year business partnership (2005–2008)
    • transfer of nearly 80 hectares of land, in the municipalities of Sainte-Béatrix, Saint-Jean-de-Matha and Sainte-Mélanie, that belonged to Hydro-Québec through its Hydro-Québec Production division.
Montréal
Carrefour de lutte au décrochage scolaire
  • Member of the board of directors of this organization devoted to promoting school attendance and academic success; member of the committee in charge of drafting its Strategic Plan 2006–2010 and Vice President of the organization.
Nord-du-Québec
James Bay caribou hunt
  • Collaboration with the organizations and government departments concerned to provide support in managing the annual caribou hunt (a source of major economic spinoffs for some local businesses) and to ensure the safety of employees and third parties during the hunting season.
  • Financial contribution to a scientific study on the health and movements of caribou herds in this region.
Nord-du-Québec economic spinoff maximization committee (ComaxNORD)
  • Collaboration and joint efforts with ComaxNORD and local businesses, leading to major economic spinoffs from the construction of Eastmain-1 powerhouse and the related substation and line projects. Efforts are now focused on the Eastmain-1A–Rupert diversion project.
Committees to maximize economic spinoffs of operational projects in Nord-du-Québec
  • Two economic spinoff committees formed to target potential jobs or contracts from projects in Nord-du-Québec once they are in operations mode: one with the Nord-du-Québec region, the other with the city of Chibougamau.
Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean
Joint Mashteuiatsh–Hydro-Québec committee
  • Standing committee discussing all topics of interest with the Montagnais community of Lac-Saint-Jean. The main subjects covered were the Péribonka project, economic spinoffs and jobs.
Spinoff maximization committee
  • Active involvement in the economic spinoff maximization committee led by the regional conference of elected representatives.
