Regional technical committee
Hydro-Québec has set up a regional technical committee made up of land use, environment and landscape specialists, mandated by the affected municipal authorities (municipalities and MRCs), the Conférence régionale des élus des Laurentides – Projet Paysages Laurentides, the Conseil régional de l’environnement des Laurentides and Hydro-Québec.
The committee’s mandate is to:
- study the scenarios for meeting the growing demand for electricity in the regional county municipalities (MRCs) of Pays-d’en-Haut and Laurentides
- recommend one or several solutions based on the project with the least impact and reconciling the needs, interests and obligations of the different stakeholders
Nine meetings were held between December 2013 and October 2014.
During these meetings, the committee members recognized that a power transmission project was indeed necessary to meet the growing electricity needs in the Pays-d’en-Haut and Laurentides MRCs.
The committee’s work is now complete. On June 19 2014, its members recommended to Hydro-Québec an optiminized route (based on variant A, presented in winter 2013), which takes into account the suggestions stemming from the public consultations and regional technical committee, based on the characteristics of the new towers. The initial optimizations made to the route located in the central reference axis were presented on September 4. These optimizations were further refined, the result of which was presented during the last committee meeting on October 15, 2014.
During open house activities in fall 2014, Hydro-Québec met with citizens to consult them and gather their opinions on the optimized route and the significant improvements made to the initial project.
