Public Transit

Hydro-Québec wishes to encourage the electrification of public transit in Québec.

Hydro-Québec is currently participating in feasibility studies conducted by various public transit authorities to determine exactly what electrical infrastructure is needed and what Hydro-Québec's level of investment might be in this infrastructure.

News

  • Société de transport de Laval November 2011. The Société de transport de Laval (STL) announced its intention, today, to carry out a feasibility study to determine whether it would be appropriate to put an aerial tramway into service on its territory. Ville de Laval, Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) and Hydro-Québec all support this decision.
  • Société de transport de Laval : August 2011. The Société de transport de Laval buy an electric bus.

    To comply with the Government's energy policies, nine carriers under the AVT (Société de gestion et d’acquisition de véhicules de transport) will be conducting tests on electrically-powered technologies available on the market today, in collaboration with Hydro-Québec. The STL is spearheading this project.

  • AMT - Carpooling: June 2011. The CLIC project: bringing electric vehicle carpooling to Laval.
  • Ville de Montréal - Streetcars: Hydro-Québec will provide financial support for phase 2 studies of Montréal's streetcar project.
  • AMT - Commuter trains: In May 2009, Hydro-Québec confirmed its participation in a study by the Agence metropolitaine de transport (AMT) on a project to convert commuter trains to electricity.
  • STL - Trolleybuses: In April 2009, Hydro-Québec Distribution agreed to participate in a feasibility study by the Société de transport de Laval (STL) for its trolleybus project. The STL announced its conclusions in November 2010.
