Vegetation Control
Environmental Protection
Prior to any vegetation control operation, the company first conducts an environmental assessment in order to identify any sensitive components. A "sensitive component" is an area or feature that must be protected during the operation. Some examples include homes, streams, drinking water intakes, gardens, lakes, fish farms, orchards, and wildlife habitats. Hydro-Québec establishes a buffer zone (i.e., a zone in which specific measures are applied) for each of these components.
And what about wildlife? For operations that involve mechanical cutting and the selective application of herbicides, many scientifically recognized studies have shown that there is no negative impact on animals using the rights-of-way when the work is done in accordance with Hydro-Québec's procedures.
