Do ENERGY STAR® certified products cost more?

ENERGY STAR® certified products don’t necessarily cost more than standard products. When they do, the money you save on heating should quickly cover the extra cost. In addition, your ENERGY STAR® certified windows and patio doors can help increase the resale value of your home. Hydro-Québec does not offer cash rebates on the purchase of ENERGY STAR® certified windows and patio doors.

Energy Star®, high efficiency.

Can I make a better purchasing decision based on climate zones?

You’ll be living with your decision on new windows for at least 20 years: one more reason not to waste energy. When you buy ENERGY STAR® windows or patio doors certified for the zone you live in, you know you’re getting a highly energy-efficient product. If the product is certified for a colder zone, you’ll save even more on heating.

What about a new house?

Because new homes often have a large floor area and many large windows, owners have a lot to gain by selecting the most energy-efficient products available. If you’re having a house built, ask the builder to put in ENERGY STAR® certified windows and patio doors. To maximize your energy savings, have your new purchases installed by a professional. An experienced installer will be able to minimize heat loss and air infiltration around the frames. Most window retailers offer installation services.

RénoVert reimbursable tax credit

This temporary tax credit was introduced to encourage individuals to carry out eco-friendly home renovations that are known to have a positive impact on the home’s energy consumption or on the environment.

The period of eligibility for the RénoVert tax credit has been extended to March 31, 2018, for all recognized work other than the construction, renovation, modification or rebuilding of a system for the discharge, collection and disposal of waste water, toilet effluents or grey water in accordance with the requirements set out in the Regulation respecting waste water disposal systems for isolated dwellings. As of April 1, 2017, such work will be covered by the new refundable tax credit for the upgrading of residential waste water treatment systems.
