To ensure the safety of the public and its own workers, prevent outages and optimize power system operations, Hydro-Québec maintains sufficient clearance between vegetation and its medium-voltage lines.

The company favors vegetation control methods that respect the natural environment and promote biodiversity near its lines. The objective of Hydro-Québec's work is not to eliminate all vegetation at a given site, only plant species that are incompatible with safe, reliable system or equipment operations.
