To meet increasing electricity demand in the Abitibi, spurred in large part by growth in the mining industry, Hydro-Québec is building a new transmission line.
The project consists of extending the 120-kV double-circuit line by 18 km, from Figuery substation to Palmarolle substation.
Two line routes were presented during public consultations in spring 2012, which allowed the company to confirm which option was preferred and to optimize it.
The line was built during 2014 and was commissioned in October.
The Integrated Enhancement Program (IEP) was implemented in the affected municipalities through projects slated for 2014 and 2015. To compensate for the residual impacts of its new transmission projects, Hydro-Québec provides financing to communities where facilities are built so that they can carry out projects that improve the quality of life and the environment for their residents.
