To meet increasing electricity demand and ensure the long-term operability of the power system, Hydro-Québec is building a 315/25-kV transformer substation, mostly on the site of the existing Fleury substation.
Converting the substation to 315 kV will also require a new 315-kV line between Charland and Fleury substations. This line will be built in the right-of-way of an existing 120-kV line that will have been dismantled.
Work began in fall 2014 and is expected to continue through to 2017. Once commissioned, the new substation and line will be able to meet the short- and long-term electricity needs of the area they serve.
