To meet increasing demand and ensure the long-term operability of facilities in the eastern part of downtown Montréal, Hydro-Québec is currently converting De Lorimier substation to 315/25-kV on the site of the current 120/12-kV substation.
Hydro-Québec will also build two 315-kV underground lines, about 7 km each, to connect the new De Lorimier substation (near Pont Jacques-Cartier) to Viger substation (near Pont Victoria).
Underground conduits for the first of these two lines were built in summer 2015. Cable pulling for the first line and construction of the second line began in mid-May 2016.
Once commissioned, the new substation and its tap lines will meet the short- and long-term electricity needs of the area they serve.
