In spring 2012, Hydro-Québec obtained the necessary government authorizations to begin construction of Outardes substation, in the Manicouagan regional county municipality, in the Côte-Nord region. Commissioning of the substation is planned for spring 2015.
The project involves:
- constructing a 735-kV switching substation
- building a 735-kV tie line, about 5 km long, to connect the new Outardes substation to the existing Micoua substation
- relocating an existing line so it enters Outardes substation rather than Micoua substation
The new substation will help improve system reliability and is in keeping with Hydro-Québec’s development objectives for its transmission system.
