Service Charges
The following charges apply to all business customers, regardless of the rate they are paying.
Service entrance, service loop or connection?
Customer's service entrance

Portion of the customer's electrical installation extending from the service box (or equivalent) up to and including the connection point (usually located on the customer's service mast).
Hydro-Québec's service loop

Portion of the distributor's facilities made up of a set of conductors extending the distribution system up to the connection point.
 
Service box

A lockable or sealable metal box containing the main switch and, sometimes, breakers and fuses.
Connection

The action of connecting the customer's service entrance to the distributor's service loop or to the distribution system.

The most common charges related to the various facets of Hydro-Québec's electricity service are outlined below.

Service application

A new customer is any person or legal entity that has not had a service contract with a Québec distributor in the five years prior to the service application.

Cost of work

In the case of an underground connection, Hydro-Québec supplies the service cables and installs them in the customer's duct up to the connection point.

It retains ownership of and responsibility for all equipment and removes the cables upon termination of the service contract.

The customer must assume the cost of materials as well as all installation, removal and civil engineering costs.

If the connection of your electrical installation necessitates an extension or modification to the overhead or underground system, you must also pay all or part of the cost of the work. Unit prices of costs set out in Schedule VI of Conditions for Electrical Service are listed in Chapter 12 of the Distribution Tariff. Some refunds may apply.
    The cost of the work may include:
  • materials and equipment;
  • labor;
  • rights-of-way and easements;
  • a provision for subsequent operating and maintenance costs;
  • an administration fee.


Service charges may change subject to approval by the Régie de l'énergie.
