Understanding the bill and rates
Small Power (G)

Reliable energy at stable prices

Hydro-Québec offers basic rates suited to companies involved in a wide range of activities but with similar consumption and demand characteristics. The Small-Power Busines Rate (G) is the rate that applies to most small-power customers.
A flexible two-tiered rate
The Small-Power Business Rate (G) includes:

  • A fixed charge,
    i.e., a monthly charge for basic service regardless of consumption;
  • A demand charge,
    applicable only if your billing demand is greater than 50 kW;
  • Two prices for energy,
    with the price decreasing as the number of kilowatthours consumed increases.
Who is eligible for the Small-Power Business Rate (G)?
This rate is available to business customers with an annual service contract and a minimum billing demand of less than 100 kW.

Fixed charge
$12.33 (30 days)
Demand charge
Applies only when billing demand exceeds 50 kW.
$15.54/kW

Remainder of consumption.

4.48¢/kWh
Rates effective April 1, 2008. Under no circumstances may this table be used to replace the Distribution Tariff.

How billing demand is determined
Billing demand is based on the higher of the following two variables:

  • Maximum power demand,
    which corresponds to either real power (in kW) or 90% of apparent power (in kVA);

    OR
  • Minimum billing demand,
    which is 65% of the maximum power demand recorded during the winter period in the last 12 months.

Did you know?

In any given billing period, your average cost for both power and energy decreases as your consumption increases.

And since energy prices are 50% lower in the second consumption bracket than in the first, our Small-Power Business Rate becomes even more competitive once the first kilowatthours have been consumed.

It's to your advantage to keep your power factor (PF) above 90%.
