Building Initiatives Program
Eligibility

The Program is open to any corporation, partnership or organization that has at least one service contract at large-power rates and that has one or more commercial or institutional buildings in operation or under construction.
Since the financial assistance budget is limited, available funds will be allocated to eligible projects on a first-come, first-served basis.

The aim of an energy analysis is to identify opportunities to improve a building's energy efficiency.
An analysis should:
- Set out a comprehensive vision of the building's energy efficiency
- Cover overall consumption of all forms of energy used in the building
- Make management and employees more aware of energy efficiency and encourage them to apply the recommended electricity management measures
- Include a written report
- Include an implementation plan for the recommended measures

The Program does not prescribe any particular electricity management measures. Rather, it supports the implementation of electricity management projects proposed by customers.
An essential condition of financial assistance is the measurement of electricity consumption before and after the project, in accordance with Hydro-Québec requirements.

Optimization projects involve:
- Replacing equipment with more energy-efficient electric models
- Installing new equipment with the aim of reducing electricity consumption
- Improving a building's thermal shell of a new or existing building
- Implementing alternative technologies, such as solar walls or geothermal systems
Ultra-efficiency projects involve:
- Replacing equipment for maintenance reasons with equipment that exceeds Hydro-Québec's baseline energy efficiency requirements
- Installing new equipment that exceeds Hydro-Québec's baseline energy efficiency requirements

Projects involve:
- Selecting equipment that exceeds Hydro-Québec's baseline energy efficiency requirements
- Selecting a thermal shell that exceeds Hydro-Québec's baseline energy efficiency requirements
- Implementing alternative technologies that exceed Hydro-Québec's baseline energy efficiency requirements

- Replacing an energy source with fossil fuels
- Producing or cogenerating electricity
- Any project that requires no capital investment
