Outaouais substation, under construction (October 2008)
Construction is under way on Outaouais substation, a back-to-back direct current converter station located in the municipality of L'Ange-Gardien in the Collines-de-l'Outaouais RCM. It covers an area of 350 m by 480 m.
Outaouais substation is a key part of the Ontario interconnection project, which is intended to reinforce the 1,250-MW interconnection capacity with Ontario under any grid operating conditions. It will also improve the reliability of native load service in Québec.
The cost of the substation is estimated at $364 million and commissioning is planned for summer 2009.

The total cost of the interconnection is estimated at $684 million. In keeping with company practice, Hydro-Québec will pay particular attention to regional economic spinoffs.
