Replacement of contract power in four stages

On April 1, 2011, contract power will have been replaced by minimum demand, calculated automatically, for all Rate M customers.

Until then, transitional measures will ensure a smooth integration of the changes.

Stage 1

Starting
December 1, 2009

  • Last winter that contract power may be revised
  • Optimization charge still applies
  • Minimum billing demand is the higher of these two values:
    • Contract pow or
    • 40% of maximum power demand during a consumption period between December 1, 2009, and March 31, 2010.

Stage 2

Starting
April 1, 2010

  • Contract power can no longer be revised; it will expire at the end of 12 consumption periods after the last revision
  • Optimization charge no longer applies
  • Minimum billing demand is the higher of these two values:
    • Contract power, if not yet expired, or
    • 40% of maximum power demand during a consumption period between December 1, 2009, and March 31, 2010.

Stage 3

Starting
December 1, 2010

  • Your consumption history begins to be recorded in the consumption period that starts in December 2010
  • Minimum billing demand is the higher of these two values:
    • Contract power, if not yet expired, or
    • 65% of maximum power demand during a consumption period between December 1, 2010, and March 31, 2011.

Stage 4

Starting
April 1, 2011

For all customers, minimum demand is set at 65% of maximum power demand in winter over the past 12 consumption periods.*

*As your consumption history will not begin to be recorded until December 2010, the first data considered will be from winter 2010–2011.
