You must pay your hydro bill within 21 days of the billing date. You can pay your bill:
 |
by regular mail |
 |
your financial institution (counter, ATM or by phone) |
 |
by preauthorized debit |
 |
online |
If you do not pay the full amount of the bill by the due date or if your financial institution returns your cheque, you will be charged an administrative fee.

Hydro-Québec may ask you for a deposit or guarantee as a condition for maintaining electricity service. The amount of the deposit is based on the type of account (residential or other).
If the initial conditions established by Hydro-Québec have been met and the type of use is residential, the deposit is refunded within 24 months of payment and earns annual interest. For other types of contracts, the deposit is refunded after 48 months.

The Equalized Payments Plan (EPP) lets you spread your annual electricity costs over 12 months without any enrolment or service fees. Your monthly amount is based on an estimate of your consumption.
You can sign up for the EPP anytime, as long as your account is paid in full.
Because your consumption may vary from year to year, Hydro-Québec reviews your monthly payments twice a year (after the summer and winter seasons) and adjusts it if necessary.
Hydro-Québec reserves the right to terminate your participation in the EPP if you fail to make one or more payments.

If you can't pay your bill by the due date, it's best to work out a payment arrangement with Hydro-Québec so that you can spread your payments over a longer period of time. Contact Hydro-Québec as soon as you realize you're having difficulties. That way you'll reduce the possibility of having your service disconnected.
