Peak periods are the times when the demand for electricity is highest, putting
the Hydro-Québec grid under a lot of pressure. In winter, peak periods occur
when the mercury hovers around -25°C for several days running, and especially
between 7 and 9 a.m. and between 4 and 8 p.m.
It’s time to do your bit
You can help reduce demand by cultivating these good habits:
- Plan to use the dishwasher, clothes washer
and dryer in off-peak hours.
- Use a timer for outdoor lighting.
- Turn off lights and any electronics
in unoccupied rooms.
- Take your bath or shower before or after peak periods.
Every little bit helps reduce electricity demand with no loss of comfort,
especially in extremely cold weather.
