Hydro-Québec meters…
an evolving technology
Equipped with a disc that spins as electricity is consumed, the electromechanical meter was part of Québec’s landscape for several decades.
In the 2000s, the technology was gradually replaced by digital meters. Every year, Hydro-Québec installs or replaces tens of thousands of these meters.
In the past decade, the telecommunications industry evolved by leaps and bounds. Combined with an advanced measuring structure (AMI), these next-generation meters automatically record and communicate the amount of electricity that is consumed.
An advanced security system encrypts the data transmitted by the meter to our billing system. Hydro-Québec chose to implement a highly secure system to ensure that each customer’s consumption information remains completely confidential.
