Shopping
for a TV?
Read this before you buy!

Screen size and picture quality are usually the basic criteria for buying a television set . but let's not forget energy efficiency!

With an ENERGY STAR® qualified TV, you'll like the picture even better because you won't have to compromise on quality to save approximately 30% in electricity.* In standby mode (turned off), it uses less than 1 W of electricity, as opposed to the 12 W used by conventional models.

To save even more .

. cultivate these good habits:

  • Turn off the TV when no one's watching it.
  • Lower the room lighting and screen brightness. The set will use less energy and the picture quality will still be very good. You'll almost feel like you're in a movie theatre.

Other things to consider!

For your own well-being, the size of your TV should be determined by how far away you'll be sitting. Here's a formula to help you choose:

  • Calculate the distance between you and the screen, then divide by 2.5. So, if the TV is 8 ft. away (96 in. or 2.43 m), a 40-in. (approximately 1-m) screen should do the trick.

Remember: the bigger the TV screen, the more electricity it uses.

  • Every additional 10 in. (25 cm) requires 50%-70% more energy.*
