See some sights, learn some science
Various activities for family fun
Our facilities, not far from Québec's biggest cities,
are very easy to get to, and guided tours make great family outings.
Laval
- Rivière-des-Prairies Generating Station: Discover the history of the
generating station that has straddled the river between Montréal and Laval since the 1930s. You can
actually go down into the turbine pit and up onto the spillway. The waterpower will amaze you!
Montérégie
- The Électrium: Dynamic, interactive displays are the name of the game. They're ideal for gaining an
understanding of electricity and following in the footsteps of pioneering scientists, including Edison, Ampère, Ohm and Volta. Get ready
for a hair-raising experience!
- Beauharnois Generating Station: This powerhouse, designed in the
Art Deco style like the Empire State Building, represents an electrifying duo - art and science! It's almost
1 km long-that's like three Eiffel towers on top of one another!
Outaouais
- Carillon Generating Station: This is the most powerful hydroelectric
facility on Rivière des Outaouais and the first built by Québec engineers.
- Rapides-Farmer Generating Station: It took 1,400,000 bricks, 2,750 t of rebar and structural steel and 103,000 m3 of concrete to build this powerhouse. And here's another
mind-boggling fact: A single one of the generating units weighs as much as 44 elephants.
For a list of Hydro-Québec facilities you can tour free of charge and
