Info-Excavation

Before you dig, plant a tree or install a fence, call Info-Excavation. This free service is available throughout Québec.

Because various telephone, cable TV, natural gas, hydro and other installations are buried in the ground, it is important to obtain information about the site before you dig. If you don't, you may be in for a nasty surprise!

For your convenience, utilities with underground networks have joined forces to set up Info-Excavation, a free one-stop service that provides all the information you need in order to dig safely.

Whether you are doing some construction work, installing a swimming pool, putting up a fence or planting a tree, when you have to dig, call Info-Excavation at 1 800 663-9228 or 1 800 ON-EXCAVE.

What is Info-Excavation?

The mission of Info-Excavation is to operate a single, efficient call centre for all utilities that have underground installations in order to help them access various locating services, ensure worker and public safety, protect the environment and maintain service continuity to the public.

Who are the members of Info-Excavation?

They include several utilities, such as electric, natural gas, telephone and cable TV companies. For a complete listing of members, visit the Info-Excavation Web site.

What do members do?

Members contact the excavators and arrange an appointment to locate and mark off conduit and cable locations.

What should I do before digging?

Allow 72 hours from the time you contact Info-Excavation with your locating request so that each utility can plan and schedule the personnel needed to provide you with the best possible service. Note that any pipeline crossover requires three business days' advance notice and a written authorization from the company that operates the pipeline in question.

In case of emergency, Info-Excavation can provide special service.

Never dig or authorize any excavation on your property, no matter how small, until you have obtained the location of underground installations through Info-Excavation. The Info-Excavation service is provided free of charge throughout Québec and covers all member companies' underground facilities (electric, telephone, natural gas, cable TV and others).
