We first adopt a policy that incorporates environmental protection into all the company's operations. Next, we act—in other words, plan our initiatives, carry them out, measure our progress and constantly make improvements. That is what environmental management is all about. In 1997, Hydro-Québec made a commitment to implement ISO 14001–compliant environmental management systems (EMS) in all units whose activities include significant environmental aspects. This standard therefore forms the basis of our environmental management approach.
