Energy Efficiency Plan 2005–2010

 

Objective: Achieve annual savings of 4.7 TWh by 2010 (enough to supply more than 250,000 homes) with a total budget of $1 billion.

  • 866 GWh in energy savings (exceeding target of 661 GWh)
  • 39,450 ENERGY WISE Home Diagnostic questionnaires completed by residential customers looking for advice on ways to use electricity wisely (program overhauled in 2007)
  • 942,508 electronic thermostats installed
  • 167,741 pool filter timers sold
  • 135,278 ENERGY STAR® qualified washing machines sold

How

  • Creation of jobs in various sectors

    • Support for energy efficiency technology demonstration and experimentation initiatives (IDEAS program)
    • Technology demonstration projects related to efficient lighting and the use of geothermal systems, in cooperation with the provincial farm producers' union (UPA)
    • Publication of three collections of winning energy efficiency practices intended for the municipal, educational and health and social services sectors

Recognition activity

  • Creation of the Energy Savers' Circle to recognize the efforts of large-power customers that are particularly proactive in energy efficiency and have reduced their power consumption by at least 5% or 50 GWh by participating in Hydro-Québec energy conservation programs (15 members now in the Circle)
  • We were given two awards by the Canadian government for our commitment to energy efficiency, and specifically for our efforts in 2006 and 2007 to promote ENERGY STAR® certification under the ENERGY WISE programs
