Hydro-Québec uses water to generate 98% of its electricity. A hydroelectric generating station is very low in greenhouse gas emissions, so Hydro-Québec directly contributes to Québec's excellent record and helps reduce GHG emissions from neighboring markets. The predominance of hydroelectricity will be a significant advantage to Hydro-Québec should a tradable emission credit system be created.
