Economic performance
partialy covered EC1 Direct economic value generated and distributed, including revenues, operating costs, employee compensation, donations and other community investments, retained earnings, and payments to capital providers and governments.
fully covered EC2 Financial implications and other risks and opportunities for the organization's activities due to climate change. Hydro-Québec uses water to generate 98% of its electricity. A hydroelectric generating station is very low in greenhouse gas emissions, so Hydro-Québec directly contributes to Québec's excellent record and helps reduce GHG emissions from neighboring markets. The predominance of hydroelectricity will be a significant advantage to Hydro-Québec should a tradable emission credit system be created.
fully covered EC3 Coverage of the organization's defined benefit plan obligations.
partialy covered EC4 Significant financial assistance received from government. The Québec government is Hydro-Québec's sole shareholder.

Apart from reimbursement for the 1998 ice storm, Hydro-Québec does not receive any significant financial assistance from the government.

Market presence
partialy covered EC5 Range of ratios of standard entry level wage compared to local minimum wage at significant locations of operation.
  • The pay of unionized employees is detailed in their collective agreements.
partialy covered EC6 Policy, practices, and proportion of spending on locally based suppliers at significant locations of operation.
partialy covered EC7 Procedures for local hiring and proportion of senior management hired from the local community at significant locations of operation. On large projects, Hydro-Québec employs a number of mechanisms (agreements, clauses, etc.) to encourage the recruitment of local residents, including Aboriginal workers.
Indirect economic impacts
partialy covered EC8 Development and impact of infrastructure investments and services provided primarily for public benefit through commercial, in-kind, or pro bono engagement. Hydro-Québec contributes to the development of local communities, specifically by helping fund community projects under its Integrated Enhancement Program.
partialy covered EC9 Understanding and describing significant indirect economic impacts, including the extent of impacts.
