Serving Customers Effectively
Helping Customers Save Energy |
 |
|
Hydro-Québec has been encouraging energy efficiency since the early 1960s. Between 1990 and 2000, its programs produced savings of almost 2,500 GWh, which equals the annual consumption of approximately 120,000 residential customers.
Hydro-Québec focuses on three aspects of efficiency:
- Energy conservation results from the adoption of behaviors and the use of equipment and appliances that reduce consumption but meet the same needs. For example: electronic thermostats.
- Energy management consists in spreading out electricity consumption more evenly throughout the day. For example: residential dual energy.
- Energy use involves promoting the use of the most appropriate source of energy for a particular need. For example: encouraging heating with oil instead of electricity in remote areas that are not connected to the main Hydro-Québec grid.
Our energy efficiency program is designed for residential as well as commercial, institutional and industrial customers.
