Our division

To take advantage of new business opportunities arising from the opening up of the American wholesale market, Hydro-Québec unbundled its operations in 1997 and created Hydro-Québec TransÉnergie.

Hydro-Québec TransÉnergie operates the most extensive transmission system in North America. It manages power flows throughout Québec and markets system capacity, while maintaining the necessary standard of reliability.

Some 3,400 employees in various specialties contribute to Hydro-Québec TransÉnergie's success. Our organization chart gives an overview of our fields of endeavor.

In accordance with North American regulatory provisions, the division offers non-discriminatory access to Québec's transmission system to all customers on the wholesale market in northeastern North America. It also makes its interconnections available to customers both inside and outside Québec.

In Québec, the division's operations are regulated by the Régie de l'énergie (Energy Board), which sets the rates on the basis of cost of service. The Régie also approves the division's capital investments and terms of service.
