The interface module test set known as "BEMI" (Banc d'essais de modules d'interface) was developed to troubleshoot and repair terminal station circuit packs. BEMI is a digital test set with two major components: a computer user interface and a digital signal conditioner. The conditioner plugs into a PC's parallel port and is connected directly to the card to be tested. BEMI allows much more thorough testing and eleminates the need for a standard test set.

The purpose of the Power System Stabilizer (PSS) is to improve the damping of power swings and the stability of the generator and the transmission system as a whole by adding a suitable control signal to the generator excitation. For existing excitation systems, ABB provides various types of stand-alone power system stabilizers with various algorithms and structures. The Multiband PSS is implemented in a single box as stand-alone equipment. It works according the IEEE PSS 4B model. The equipment is designed to be compatible with any existing analog or digital excitation system with a spare analog input available for adding the PSS signal to the AVR summing point. Basically it consists of three stabilizing networks allowing the tuning of PSS for all possible oscillation modes (local, inter-plant, inter-area).

Z-DRM-2© is a diagnostic tool that assesses the state of circuit breaker contacts by measuring their dynamic arcing-contact resistance. It is based on an innovative new technique developed by Hydro-Québec that eliminates noise in the resistance curve, yielding reproducible results which can be interpreted quickly and easily.

Z-DRM-2©, which includes a very powerful voltage amplifier also developed by Hydro-Québec, is used with CBA-32P© series circuit breaker analyzers and CBA WIN RESDYN© analysis software.

On-load tap changers are installed on most power transformers. This component, which plays a role in network voltage regulation, contains many moving parts and is one of the most important causes of power transformer failure. A new acoustic diagnostic tool can now be used either for periodic checks on transformers in operation or for ensuring maintenance quality on transformers removed from service. With its sophisticated acoustic signal analysis software, this instrument is able to diagnose many types of tap changer failures such as contact wear, contact misalignments, synchronization problems, tracking, defective brake mechanisms, etc. This instrument is universal and may be used on any type of on-load tap changer.

Using a new technology, the interphase power controller (IPC) is designed primarily to passively resolve power-flow and short-circuit problems.

Applied to power transmission grids, IPC technology
allows utilities to:

  • Synchronize power systems
  • Bypass disturbances
  • Control power flow in transmission lines
  • Boost transmission capacity with no increase in short circuits

The Hydro-Québec billing meter terminal was developed and certified by Hydro-Québec's TransÉnergie division to facilitate the replacement of mechanical panel-mount or switchboard meters with base-mount multifunction meters used for measuring energy on interconnections with neighboring systems.

The Hydro-Québec billing meter terminal provides a safe environment that supports one or two base-mount multifunction meters in a modular billing panel.
