With this project, Hydro‑Québec aims to meet the growing demand for electricity in the Bécancour industrial park and port and improve the reliability of the power system in this sector.
Overview Increasing capacity at Nicolet and Bécancour substations
Hydro‑Québec is working to reinforce its 230‑kV transmission system located between Nicolet substation in Sainte‑Eulalie and Bécancour substation in Bécancour.
To this end, we are replacing and adding equipment in the two substations and building a new 230‑kV line segment, approximately 1.3‑km long, south of Bécancour substation.

Other work
Connecting industrial customers
Hydro‑Québec has completed projects to connect industrial customers to the existing 230‑kV system. All of these connections, covering short distances, were carried out within the boundaries of the Bécancour industrial park and port.
Increasing capacity at Cournoyer substation
We increased the transformer capacity at the 120/25‑kV Cournoyer substation with the addition of a third transformer. We also upgraded the substation’s automatic control systems.
Integrated Enhancement Program Powering communities
Hydro‑Québec believes that its power transmission facilities (lines and substations) should blend harmoniously into their environment. Through its Integrated Enhancement Program (IEP), Hydro‑Québec grants eligible organizations funding to enable them to carry out initiatives in which local residents have had a say.
For over 30 years, the IEP has helped develop, maintain, repair and enhance communities. Thanks to this program, more people are playing, skating, cycling, reading, laughing, and gathering across Québec. See for yourself!
