Overview Rehabilitation objectives
In service since 1949, the bridge at Beauharnois is a strategic link connecting downtown Beauharnois and the Melocheville sector.
Now at an advanced stage in its service life, the bridge requires major repairs. The last significant work was carried out in 2014. Some of its structural components are approaching the end of their service life. Engineering standards have also evolved, and Hydro‑Québec must comply with current regulatory requirements. Consequently, to ensure user safety, road link reliability and the structure’s long‑term integrity, we must invest in rehabilitating the bridge.
Key objectives of the work:
- Ensure the safety of bridge users.
- Maintain road system reliability.
- Extend the infrastructure’s service life.
Traffic Management
We’re taking every possible measure to minimize the impacts of the work and ensure the safety of road users and workers. For this purpose, Hydro‑Québec is working with the municipal authorities and the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD) to ensure the safe and efficient integration of construction activities with road, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Hydro‑Québec also plans to engage a specialist firm to develop traffic management plans, taking into account local land use and activities.
The project to rehabilitate the Beauharnois bridge will follow a responsible approach aimed at minimizing impacts on the community while ensuring the infrastructure’s long‑term integrity.
Clearly signed detours have been established to facilitate traffic flow.
Mitigation measures will also be implemented to reduce noise and lighting impacts from the construction site and minimize disruption to local activities.
Temporary closure of the road link
The work will be carried out in several phases between 2026 and 2028. Some of these stages will require full or partial closure of the bridge.
Users are encouraged to consult the traffic disruption schedule regularly, take note of the detours and plan their travel accordingly.
