Update on progress in the Wocawson area
Hydro‑Québec and the Alliance de l’énergie de l’Est are currently continuing survey work in the Wocawson area to better understand the area’s potential and the conditions conducive to its development.
No wind power project has yet been identified in the area, and no decision has been made regarding the number or location of any potential wind turbines. Several elements remain to be determined at this stage of the process.

Project overviewAt the heart of the energy transition
Hydro‑Québec, in collaboration with the Alliance de l’énergie de l’Est, which brings together 16 regional county municipalities (MRCs) and the First Nation of Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk is taking part in the study of an area with significant potential for wind power development in Québec.
The Wocawson area is located in the MRCs of Kamouraska and Témiscouata. It covers an area of about 700 km2 and could be home to up to 1,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy. This wind power project is part of our sustainable approach to the energy transition and is in line with objectives of decarbonation and ensuring a renewable energy supply.
The area includes the unorganized territories (TNOs) of Petit‑Lac‑Sainte‑Anne and Picard, as well as parts of the municipalities of Mont‑Carmel and Saint‑Athanase. To better characterize the area and plan for future wind farms, environmental studies, wind measurements and community consultations are underway.
