Hochelaga substation and underground supply lines
Project overview
Growing electricity needs in the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve
For several years now, Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve has been booming, as can be seen by large-scale projects, such as the building of housing co-ops, the renovation of the Olympic facilities and the construction of the Faubourg Contrecoeur and Cours Lafontaine residential developments. There are other projects are on the horizon as well, notably in the designated development areas of Assomption Nord and Assomption Sud–Longue-Pointe.
That’s why Hydro-Québec has to upgrade the power grid to meet current and future customer needs.
A new substation and two new underground lines to support development
Right now, the borough is supplied by Longue-Pointe and Jeanne-d’Arc substations, commissioned in 1957 and in 1959, respectively. Although they continue to provide reliable service in the areas they serve, some of their hardware is at the end of its service life and needs to be replaced.
To take the pressure off those two substations and support the borough’s long-term residential, commercial and industrial development, Hydro-Québec plans to build a transformer substation and put in underground supply lines.
Please note: The project schedule in the bulletins opposite indicating commissioning of the new substation in 2023 is currently being reviewed.
