Hydro-Québec attaches great importance to the economic development of host communities. Working with community stakeholders and in keeping with its internal procedures, it strives to maximize the economic spinoffs, which are primarily generated by construction activities.
Hydro-Québec estimates that the Rapide-Blanc generating station refurbishment project will generate over $80 million in regional economic spinoffs, based on the average for comparable projects.
Hydro-Québec estimates that refurbishing Rapide-Blanc generating station will require over 100 workers between 2020 and 2026.

Annual direct labor forecasts

DIRECT LABOR: 37 in 2019, 80 in 2020, 111 in 2021, 95 in 2022, 95 in 2023, 122 in 2024, 135 in 2025 and 13 in 2026

1.

Informing economic development agencies in the community whenever requests for proposals are published on its Suppliers website

2.

Working with economic development agencies to remind local suppliers to register on the Suppliers site to stay informed about requests for proposals in their area of expertise

3.

Familiarizing major contractors with the products and services of companies active in the region, by various means:

  • Subcontracting fair
In cooperation with the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie du Haut-Saint-Maurice (CCIHSM), Hydro-Québec held a subcontracting fair on October 30, 2019, and another on September 2, 2020, to inform the business community and local businesses about the project and associated business opportunities, as well as to give contractors and potential subcontractors a chance to network via “speed meetings”.
