Wakefield | Distribution system upgrade
Project summary
To better serve its customers while contributing to the fight against climate change as well as wealth creation in Québec, Hydro‑Québec published its Action Plan 2035 – Towards a Decarbonized and Prosperous Québec in November 2023. Improving service quality is our top priority and as such, this plan proposes a series of concrete and ambitious initiatives related to the energy and economic transition.
Hydro‑Québec is carrying out major work on a distribution line in the Outaouais in order to make it more robust.
Hydro‑Québec has chosen this distribution line, which supplies 1,973 customers in the municipalities of La Pêche, Low and Alleyn‑et‑Cawood, to test a combination of new solutions designed to make the grid more resilient and reduce the number and duration of power outages.
- Installing and replacing approximately 100 poles with composite poles
- Replacing bare conductors with covered conductors
- Undergrounding of part of the distribution system
- Adding remotely controlled equipment
- Selective clearing in wooden areas and preventive pruning of at-risk branches and trees
